Questions

Travel vaccinations in Eastleigh, your questions answered

Everything travellers ask us before they book. If your question is not here, call the pharmacy and we will talk it through.

Ideally six to eight weeks before you travel, because some vaccines are given as a course over several weeks. If you are flying sooner, still book. Many vaccines give useful protection quickly and we will work out the best plan with the time you have.

It depends on where you are going, what you will be doing there, how long you are staying and your vaccination history. We follow NaTHNaC and UKHSA guidance and give you a written plan at your consultation, rather than selling you a fixed package.

Prices vary by vaccine and by how many doses a course needs. Ask us for a written quote for your trip before you commit, and we will tell you which of your vaccines are available free on the NHS so you are not paying for something you do not need to.

No. You can book directly with us. We are a pharmacist-led private travel clinic, so there is no referral, no GP waiting list and no need to register with us first.

Often yes. We hold same-week appointments and can frequently see last-minute travellers on the same day. Book online and pick the earliest slot showing, or call the pharmacy and we will fit you in if we can.

About 30 minutes. That covers a full review of your itinerary, your medical and vaccination history, the risks at your destination, and any vaccines given on the day.

Some vaccines, typically including hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera and combined tetanus, diphtheria and polio, are available free through GP surgeries. Availability varies by practice. We will always tell you when something is available free on the NHS.

We assess malaria risk for your specific route and season as part of the consultation and advise on bite avoidance and antimalarial options where they are appropriate for you. Suitability is decided by the pharmacist at your appointment.

Most people find them very manageable. You may get a sore arm for a day or two and occasionally feel a bit off colour. Tell us if you are nervous about needles, we do this all day and we are used to making it easier.

Many travel vaccines can be given to children, but the age limits differ by vaccine. Call the pharmacy with your children's ages before booking and we will confirm what we can do for your family.

Your travel itinerary including dates and countries, any record you have of previous vaccinations, and a list of any medicines you take. If you have an old yellow fever certificate, bring that too.

Yes. You get a record of everything given on the day. Where a country requires proof of vaccination for entry, we issue the appropriate certificate at your appointment.

We will tell you at your first appointment exactly how many doses your course needs and when they are due, so you can plan them around your trip. Some courses can be completed after you return.

We are inside the pharmacy, so you are seen in a private consultation room rather than a clinic waiting room. Full address, opening hours and directions are on this page, and you can tap Get directions to open it in Maps.
